Lets go back to post when Britain was a marvelous creation called the National Health Service (NHS) was born. There was nothing else in the world to rival it and it was the envy of many other nations - truly free healthcare for all citizens of the nation paid for by people's income taxes and national insurance contributions. Dental Preventative treatments and regular dental check ups were part of this service.
Fast forward to modern Britain and we have an NHS under considerable financial constraints due to reduced budgets and a growing population to be treated, so it is not surprising that the government expects citizens to contribute to the cost of the more routine, such as tooth Check-ups and operations. Add to the mix the fact that dentists, who run their own surgeries privately, are in dispute with the government about how they get paid for carrying out NHS dental work and we begin to see how it has become so difficult to get registered as an NHS patient at a dental practice today.
Patients are now expected that they are sometimes up to 50% of the cost of NHS treatment and how this has become more expensive, combined with the fact that NHS dentists are hard to get registered, more and more people, the private dental insurance to the bills.
It is important to distinguish between "private dental insurance" and a "dental insurance". Private dental insurance is exactly that, a policy of payment for the full cost of all treatment, either at a private dental practice or private dental Hospital. Often such measures are part of a broader health insurance provided by some employers. On the other side of the dental plan is usually a "cash-back" system, where you pay a monthly premium depending on the amount of, you want, and then claim back a percentage of the cost of your treatment.
People need to watch out that they know the difference, that they understand, and exactly what they get for their money, before making a dental policy. Both types of measures are available to individuals and families in Britain, by a growing number of vendors.
